WELCOME TO
SEND At Priory
Every child deserves to feel happy, safe and successful at school.
At Priory CE Academy, we believe that every child has strengths to celebrate and every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We work closely with children, families and outside professionals to understand each child’s individual needs and provide the right support at the right time.
Whether a child needs a small adjustment in the classroom, targeted intervention or specialist support, we are committed to helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.
Children develop at different rates, but sometimes they need extra support to help them learn.
We identify SEND through:
- High quality teaching and regular assessment
• Discussions with parents and carers
• Staff observations
• Pupil progress meetings
• Advice from external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists
• Information from previous schools or settings
If concerns are identified, we will always involve parents and carers from the beginning.
The most effective support starts in the classroom.
Every teacher at Priory is responsible for meeting the needs of all learners in their class.
Teachers adapt lessons using a range of strategies, including:
- Visual supports
- Practical learning
- Scaffolding
- Adaptive teaching
- Pre-teaching and overlearning
- Sensory adjustments where appropriate
- Clear routines and expectations
- Technology where helpful
Additional intervention is used alongside quality first teaching, not instead of it.
Some children benefit from targeted intervention to help them make progress.
Support may include:
- Speech and language programmes
• Precision Teaching
• Reading interventions
• Maths interventions
• Social communication groups
• Emotional wellbeing support
• Zones of Regulation
• Lego Therapy
• Drawing and Talking
• Occupational Therapy programmes
• Sensory support
• Attention Autism approaches
• Communication programmes
Interventions are carefully selected according to a child’s individual needs and are reviewed regularly to ensure they are making a positive difference.
WORKING TOGETHER
With Families
Parents and carers are the experts on their child.
We value open and honest communication and believe that the best outcomes happen when school and home work together.
Throughout the year we will:
- Share progress
- Discuss support
- Review targets
- Celebrate successes
- Listen to your views
- Agree next steps together
If you ever have concerns, we encourage you to speak to your child’s class teacher or contact our Inclusion Team.
WELCOME TO OUR
Inclusion Hub
Our Inclusion Hub provides additional support for pupils whose needs extend beyond what can ordinarily be provided through classroom teaching alone. Working alongside teachers, families and external agencies, the team helps remove barriers to learning so that every child can participate fully in school life.
The team supports children with communication, learning, emotional wellbeing, attendance, medical needs and safeguarding, while also coordinating specialist advice and targeted intervention.

Key Documents
Children with the highest level of need may have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
An EHCP is a legal document produced by the Local Authority that describes a child’s needs and the provision required to meet them.
We work closely with families and professionals to deliver the provision outlined within every EHCP and review progress regularly.
We work closely with a wide range of professionals including:
- Educational Psychology
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- School Nursing
- CAMHS
- Family Support
- Behaviour Support
- Autism Outreach
- Hearing and Vision Support
- SENDIASS
- The Local Authority SEND Team
- PEGiS
Our list is not limited, whenever we can liaise with a service to support a child, we will.
At Priory, we promise to:
- Listen to children.
- Work in partnership with families.
- Celebrate strengths as well as support needs.
- Review support regularly.
- Make decisions based on evidence.
- Help every child become as independent as possible.
- Ensure every child feels they belong.
The Stoke-on-Trent Local Offer brings together information about education, health and social care services available for children and young people with SEND and their families.
